Our 3-Level approach to security

Introduction

Papertrailer was developed as a way for individuals and business to store, organize and share important documents. Therefore protecting your documents and your privacy are our primary concerns. The below privacy policy details what information we collect about you, the customer, and how we use that information. As you will see below, Papertrailer takes great measures to collect and store the minimum amount of information possible (much less than other services of this kind) and does not sell or share any of your information with any third party except those that handle aspects of operational processing.

The below privacy policy governs your access and use of Papertrailer (the "service"). By continuing to use our service, you consent to the collection, transfer, processing, storage, disclosure and other uses described in this policy.

What we collect and how we use it

Papertrailer only collects personal information that is relevant to the purposes of providing our services in a way that maximizes their value to each customer.

  • Payment information, such as credit card information, which is processed by a reputable, secure third-party credit card processing service and is never seen or stored by Papertrailer.   • Documents that are uploaded, mailed in or shared.
  • User-generated content created as part of using the service, including but not limited to comments, metadata, communication with Papertrailer staff, etc.
  • Activity logs and traffic information, such as the type of device being used, the site that brought you to papertrailer.com, etc. This is done through a third-party analytics provider, which never identifies gathered analytics with any specific customer.

  • Provide the subscribed to services.
  • To notify you of important changes or activity related to your account.
  • To fix problems with the site.
  • To create a more useful and better service for our customers.
  • Be able to provide support to our customers.

Papertrailer uses cookies to ensure your login session and your account are protected. Cookies allow papertrailer.com to recognize your browser and relay data back to our servers. Our cookies do not collect personal information nor are they used to tie any activity data to any specific user. Your may disable cookies or activate programs that allow you to visit papertrailer.com anonymously. However, these actions may prevent you from experiencing various features of the service or prevent you from accessing the service in general.

Who sees your data

Data you provide or that which is generated in the process of you using the service is only seen by appropriate company employees and other hired support on a strictly as-needed basis. That is, only those individuals serving the purposes stated above are entrusted to see your information in only the cases in which it is absolutely necessary for the completion of their functions. These individuals are background-checked either by Papertrailer or their respective employer. Papertrailer keeps all employees and contractors informed and reminded of privacy and security practices. In addition, Papertrailer reserves the right to release information to other external individuals if it is required under the law or is otherwise necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of Papertrailer, its employees, users or others. We reserve the right to disclose your personal information as required by law and when we believe that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our site.

How your information is safeguarded

Private login:

Your personal account and any data tied to it on Papertrailer is secured by your email and password, which together constitute your login. You are responsible for keeping your user name and password secret, and should be careful to log out of your account after you have finished any given session, especially if you are using a public computer. The login you create at registration is specific to you individually. If you have a shared account, every additional administrator on your account should have their own login. This allows the privacy of your account-specific information.

SSL and other encryption:

We go above and beyond to secure you and your documents against hackers and identity thieves.

  • All communication between your browser and Papertrailer is secured by a Positive SSL certificate.
  • Once your documents reach our servers, they are encrypted with AES-256, and are only decrypted on-the-fly, when you view them (i.e. when you are viewing the thumbnail, preview, or actual document).
  • The documents' URLs will only resolve for you when you are logged into Papertrailer. Other Papertrailer users will only be able to access documents if you have explicitly given them permission to do so. Non-Papertrailer users will NOT be able to access your documents.
Physical storage of paper:

Documents you mail-in are received into a locked mailbox, which is only accessible by designated Papertrailer employees. It is then transported in a locked vehicle to our secure processing facility, to which only Papertrailer staff have access, where it is processed and stored until it is either returned to the user or securely shredded and recycled.

Control over your privacy

You may choose not to disclose certain personal information. However, please note that this may mean that you will not be able to access a portion or potentially all services.

You can add, delete or update your personal information, but Papertrailer may retain a copy of the unrevised information. You can also add, delete or update your personal information by clicking on "preferences".

You can unsubscribe from any of the non-service related Papertrailer messages or newsletters by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of your emailed newsletters.

We may solicit testimonials from our users periodically. Papertrailer does not post any user information along with testimonials unless we have been given permission to do so by the user. Prior to posting testimonials, we verify with testimonial providers that they are aware that which of their personal information will being posted on the publicly accessible portion of our site.

Please note that our blogs are public. If you choose to submit any personal information as part of a question or comment posted there, you should be aware that this information can be read, collected, or used by the public, search engines or other users. We are not responsible for the information you choose to submit. To request deletion of your personal information from our blog, contact us at mail@papertrailer.com. In some cases, we may not be able to remove your personal information, in which case we will let you know if we are unable to do so and why.

We will retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you wish to cancel your account or request that we no longer use your information to provide you services contact us at mail@papertrailer.com. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Changes to this Privacy Policy:

Papertrailer may amend or change this Policy at its sole discretion at any time. You should periodically check the Privacy Policy to make sure you understand the current policy.

Conditions of use:

Your use of the Papertrailer website and other services is subject to this Privacy Policy and any other terms of use, including limitations on damages, arbitration of disputes, and application of Delaware state law.
